I the creator Katrina Smith, here wants to give you some background history on Tofu. Like, what is Tofu, and where did it come from? because you all need to know where your food comes from before placing it into your palate.

Tofu, is also known as bean curd, which is a food made from coagulating soy milk and then pressing the resulting curds into soft white blocks. It is a component in Eastern Asian and Southeast Asian dishes. As there are many different varieties of tofu, out there on the market. Like, Firm, Extra firm, Soft and fresh tofu. Tofu has a subtle flavor that can be use in savory and sweet dishes. As it's often seasoned or marinated when it's added into the dish.

Tofu has come a very long way, as Living Better Cafe speak's talking about 2,000 years ago. Back when Chinese legend attribute it's invention to the prince Liu Au, in 179-122 BC.

Tofu has a low calorie count and reasonably amount of protein. It's also high in iron, calcium, magnesium.

Living Better Cafe want to now tell you about the nutritional benefit's, of eating Tofu. Like, I Katrina Smith have stated before, that Tofu has a good source of Protein. Tofu also contains eight other essential amino acids. Like, I have stated before about Tofu having reasonable amount, of protein, iron, calcium and magnesium. Tofu also carries selenium and phosphorous. In addition, Tofu has a good source of copper, zinc and vitamin B1.

Hot out of the oven...... What lies in our food

*Note:Please continue to read this blog article.

Living Better Cafe is bring you Fresh out of the oven news, that you're going to love. That no other blog source will ever take you close into the story. I say more good reasons to love L.B.C, not only are you revising original recipes. Your saving money while eating the way you want in a healthier way.

Welcome to Hot Out Of The Oven food news, I have yet another edition of food news coming straight from no other source but, Living Better Cafe of course. After reading about Glyphosate being found inside of Oatmeal, including bagel's, eggs (even organic variety), Potatoes and even non- GMO soy coffee creamer. I find that this is a very much needed topic to touch base on. I know Glyphosate is not an edible food source. But, it has been a topic in breakfast related foods. Does that mean food companies are hiding the truth from us?

As they are slowly killing off their consumer? Well everyone has their own option on what's going on here. Some may, or may not agree but. Living Better Cafe is not looking for a debt team. Living Better Cafe is here, to help you all become aware of these thing's because everything that is being found is being linked, to causing cancer.

If you have read in "Food News Flash" this past week. You would have came across "Super tasty recipes", or "FDA" . You would know that Glyphosate is a poison that, is found in weed killer. Yes that basically say's our food companies, are using weed killer to treat their land. While at the same time it's being absorbed into our food, and we are digesting it into our system.

Which later caused unhealthy risk factors that causes cancer. Like, Breast,Thyroid, Kidney, pancreatic, liver and bladder cancer and then we are digesting this poison into our system. Without even knowing the effects later. We as the consumer need to be aware of what we eat. Even if we do not have control over where our food comes from, we at least need to be cautious of what we put into our mouths because we do not know where it has been.

We know cancer is not a pretty thing to have, and the effect that cancer has can be quite deadly. This ingredient Glyphosate, which is found in weed killer can kill human cells. Especially, embryonic, placental and umbilical cord cells. Plus cause pregnancy problems by interfering with hormone production, that could lead into abnormal fetal development, low birth weights or miscarriages. Glyphosate could be a huge risk factor, for why people have celiac disease as known as Gluten intolerance.

Now I know this has you thinking, just like it has me thinking.

Hot Out Of The Oven..... Hominy

Adapted from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nixtamalization

*Note:Please continue to read this blog article.

Living Better Cafe is bring you Fresh out of the oven news, that you're going to love. That no other blog source will ever take you close into the story. I say more good reasons to love L.B.C, not only are you revising original recipes. Your saving money while eating the way you want in a healthier way.

Welcome to Hot Out Of The Oven food news, I have yet another edition of food news coming straight from no other source but, Living Better Cafe of course. As you have read through many editions of (H.O.T.O), since I have started this food news addition. You have become wiser about what you buy,and place into your mouth. While I am very happy to continue to keep "Hot of the oven" going as much as you keep enjoy reading it every Monday. In this First April edition.

This last April edition of Hot out of the oven, Living Better Cafe wants to help you understand " What is Hominy"? well as the creator of this awesome inexpensive food based blog. I will be helping you understand more clearly what is Hominy? as there are quite a few of clueless people still out there. Living Better Cafe will help those who have the slights idea to, What Hominy is? and where did it come from?

I will be laying out the history of hominy, and the beneficial factors of this grain based food. Well some of you may have seen a bowl of grit's, or some of you may not know what is grit's? once again it all relates back to Hominy. Hominy is a dried kernel which has been treated with an alikali called nixtamalization. Now nixatamalization is typically referred to a process for the preparations of maize (Corn), or other grain, in which the grain is soaked and cooked in an alkaline solution, mainly limewater, and hulled.

The alikali called nixatamalization has several benefits over unprocessed grains: it is more easier to ground; as its nutritional value does increase, its flavor and aroma are improved; and mycotoxins are reduced. The lime and ash are highly alikaline: which the alikalinity helps dissolution of hemicellulose, the major glue-like component of the maize cell walls, and loosens the hulls from the kernels and softens the corn.

Hominy is used in a lot of food's.such as Tortilla's, Grit's, Taco's, and Masa is the dough used to make corn tortillas ( along with other thing's). Not to confuse you but, you use can not make Masa with regular cornmeal. You can even add Hominy into soups, as it's more so popular in Mexican stews, called Posole. You can also find hominy in a can, or you can just make hominy yourself just by using dried corn kernels.

Like I have mention before about the benefits that hominy has. Hominy does have a very good source in a lot vitamins and minerals. Like, protein, Potassium, Iron and Magnesium. While the other vitamin's and minerals that is in hominy is very low count. But, they should not discourage you from eating this grain.

I am coming very to the end about Hominy. But, I want to make sure you hear about the good health benefits. Question? is Hominy good for you and why? Why yes it is because it's low in calories. Therefore, if you had only 1 cup of hominy, you would have a total of 119 calories within just that one cup. And this amount is lower then any other grain you may eat. For instant, if you have 1 cup of the not so good for you rice (White rice). That 1 cup will only provide you with 242 calories, now if you were to swap out the white rice for hominy then you would save 861 calories weekly. Now I am not a math scientist, I just did my research that's all.

Hominy is also low in fat, which make it a good choice if your planing to go on a low fat diet. While hominy is also low in carbohydrate. So, if your looking to go on a low carb diet hominy should be on your list of food to add into your diet plan.

High in fiber is a another benefit hominy has, and let not forget about that 1 cup measurement here. Let's take that measurement cup and fill it up each, you would have 4 grams of fiber in your cup. That enough to help you lose weight because it simulates satiety. Fiber plays a very good role in many different ways, as it helps lower blood sugar levels, help with digestions issues and get this helps with lower cholesterol levels.

Hominy is beneficial in low sugar content, if your looking for a grain with less sugar. Now Hominy has just one down sides to it, and that is the sodium factor it has a high level content. Therefore, if you do choice this grainy vegetable opt out salt. Especially, if you have health issues that revolve around salt intake.

Hot Out Of The Oven.... Brown Rice

In this Third March edition I will be spilling out the facts of Brown Rice, and is it really good for your health.

You and I know that Rice has been out for some years now, and it keeps continuously growing. And If I am correct rice goes way back far back as 2500 B.C. So, definitely it has been out there before you and I was born.

Rice is one of the most significant food in the world, supplying as much as half of the daily calories for half of the world's population. And we have Asian and Thailand to thank for that because rice is so exceedingly valued over in both countries. That the word Rice translated "to eat" means "to eat rice."

The only process brown rice goes through, is the removal of the outer layer of the hull kernel. Where as to get White rice, they need to mill and polish to convert Brown rice into white rice. Which destroys the nutrients that our bodies need. Like, manganese, selenium, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, thiamine, niacin and vitamin B6.

And when talking about the nutrients that brown rice has alone. Will hopefully have you rethinking about switching over to Brown rice. Brown rice is for one a highly nutritious food. It is a whole grain that is low in calories (216 per cups) also high in fiber and gluten-free.

When it comes to health benefits of brown rice, this nutritious grain helps with a better functioning cardiovascular system. Digestive system, brain and nervous system. Brown rice is packed with antioxidants which provides relief from a range of different ailments. Like, Hypertension, unhealthy levels of cholesterol, stress, mental depression and skin disorders. The high nutritional levels content in brown rice proves effective benefits for various medical conditions. For example, cancer, Obesity, diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders and insomnia. Brown rice also has anti- depressants properties and helps with maintaining healthy bones and stronger immune system.

Now that I have covered the benefit's of brown rice, the next step would be is there any side effects to eating brown rice. The only answer to this question would be? If you are eating too much Brown rice, or rice in general you are consuming too much fiber. As with anything you eat, chose to eat in moderation.

Hot Out Of The Oven.... Cinnamon

You have became more wiser about what you buy,and place into your mouth. While I am very happy to continue to keep "Hot of the oven" going as much as you keep enjoy reading it every Monday. In this second March edition I will be spilling out the facts of Cinnamon, and is it really good for your health.

When it comes to baking delicious desserts "Cinnamon" is, our most # 1 spice everyone grabs. But, did you? Cinnamon has a long history both as a spice and as a medicine. It is the brown bark of a cinnamon tree, Which you can find it in stick form, or as a ground powder form. There are two varieties of cinnamon, Chinese and Ceylon, they both have similar flavors, however cinnamon from Ceylon is slightly sweeter, much more refine and difficult to find in your local grocery store.

Health Benefits:

Cinnamon has unique healing properties, which come from three basic types of components in the essential oils found in its bark, of the cinnamon tree. These oils contain active components called cinnamaldehyde, cinnamyl acetate, and cinnamyl alcohol, plus a wide range of other volatile substances.

Anti- clotting

Cinnamaldehyde (also know as cinnamyl acetate) has been well- looked into for its effects on blood platelets. Platelets are constituents of blood that are designed to clump together under emergency circumstances (like physical injury) as a way to stop bleeding, but under normal circumstances, they can make blood flow inadequate if they clump together too much. Cinnaldehyde in cinnamon helps prevent unwanted clumping of blood platelets. Cinnamon has the abilities to lower the release of arachidonic acid from cell membranes also puts it in the category of an "anti-inflammatory" food that can be helpful in diminishing inflammation.

Anti- Microbiol Activity

The essential oils found in cinnamon also qualify it as an "anti-microbial" food, and cinnamon has been studied for its ability to help stop the growth of bacteria as well as fungi, including the commonly problematic yeast Candida (Remember watching Episode 8, the benefits of Cinnamon).

Controlling blood sugar

Adding cinnamon to high carb foods can help diminish the impact on your blood sugar. Did you know also? that Cinnamon slows the rate at which the stomach empties after meals, reducing the rise in blood sugar after your done eating. Cinnamon is also significant to help people with type 2 diabetes improve their ability to respond to insulin, thus normalizing their blood sugar levels.

Boosting Brain memory

Not only does digesting cinnamon improve the body's ability to utilize blood sugar, but just smelling cinnamon sweet spice boosts your brain activity.

Improving Colon Health and Heart Disease

Cinnamon is loaded with an excellent source of fiber and the trace mineral manganese while also a very good source of calcium. The combination of calcium and fiber in cinnamon is important and can be helpful for the prevention of several different conditions. When
both calcium, fiber can bind to bile salts and help remove them from the body. By removing bile, fiber helps to prevent the damage that certain bile salts can cause to colon cells, thereby reducing the risk of colon cancer. In conclusion, when bile is removed by fiber, the body must break down cholesterol in order to make new bile. This process can help to lower high cholesterol levels, which can be helpful in preventing atherosclerosis and heart disease. For sufferers of irritable bowel syndrome, the fiber in cinnamon may also provide relief from constipation or diarrhea.

Hot out of the oven...Coconut sugar

picture From: www.iherb.com

*Note:Please continue to read this blog article.

Living Better Cafe is bring you Fresh out of the oven news, that you're going to love. That no other blog source will ever take you close into the story. I say more good reasons to love L.B.C, not only are you revising original recipes. Your saving money while eating the way you want in a healthier way.

Welcome to Hot Out Of The Oven food news, I have yet another edition of food news coming straight from no other source but, Living Better Cafe of course. As you have read through many editions of (H.O.T.O), since I have started this food news addition. You have became more wiser about what you buy,and place into your mouth. While I am very happy to continue to keep "Hot of the oven" going as much as you keep enjoy reading it every Monday. In this first March edition I will be spilling out the facts of Coconut sugar, and it's health benefits over the Pure granulated white sugar you are use to.

As you have read about (HFCS) High fructose corn syrup, you would know about the harmful effects it can causes. Regular granulated sugar has the same effects as High fructose corn syrup, which can become increasingly more evident, people are now turning towards natural alternatives.

This sugar come from the coconut palm tree and is talked about as being more nutritious and lower on the glycemic index than granulated white sugar.

Yes! I have used Coconut sugar, and it more healthier than brown sugar because brown sugar is granulated white sugar with molasses added.

Now What is Coconut Sugar and how is this Sugar made?

But, first Coconut is also called Coconut Palm Sugar.

Coconut sugar is a natural sugar made from sap, which is the sugary circulating fluid of the coconut plant. As this sugar is often confused with Palm sugar, which is similar but made from a different kind of palm tree.

There is a 2-step process to natural Coconut sugar

1. An opening is made on the flower of the coconut palm and the liquid sap is collected into containers.

2. Then the sap is placed under heat until most of the moisture is evaporated out.

And from those two process, the final product is produce into Coconut sugar.

Is Coconut sugar more beneficial than white granulated sugar? Why I have the answers right here for you. If you have read Hot Out of the oven news, on High fructose corn syrup. You would have found out that you're regular sugar has no vital nutrients and therefore supply you with “empty” calories.

Coconut sugar however, does maintain quite a bit of the nutrients found in the coconut palm. Coconut sugar contains like zinc and iron, Calcium and Potassium, along with essential fatty acids, polyphenols and antioxidants that has provide some better health benefits.

Coconut sugar also contains good amounts of inulin, a type of dietary fiber your body can not digest in your upper gastrointestinal tract. Instead, the inulin acts as a prebiotic, feeding your intestinal bifidobacteria, which is a probiotic.

The Benefits of Coconut sugar:

Let begin with the nutrient content, Like I have said in the begin how Coconut sugar has better health benefits. Well it's true, it offers more vitamins and minerals than white granulated sugar.

Coconut sugar also provides small amounts of phytonutrients, such as polyphenols, flavonoids and anthocyanidin, and antioxidants. You'll also find the B vitamin inositol, often used as a mood booster, in coconut sugar.

Now we move onto the glycemic idex. we all should know that the glycemic index measures the effects of carbohydrates in our blood sugar. But, did you know that Coconut sugar ranks 35 on the index, then granulated sugar alone. And Granulated sugar ranks between 60 to 75. Therefore, food that is high on our glycemic index causes our blood sugar to rise. Which can cause a sugar rush and following a crush. Fast spike within your blood sugar can cause your insulin to levels to sky rocket in ashort period of time. As this can have a serious consequences for those who are diabetic.

Less sweetness

Coconut sugar contain less sweetness than your granulated sugar, and that leads me to talking about Fructose once again. Yes, we all know fructose is a type of sugar our body converts into fat quickly. But,only our liver can break down fructose, and one of the result of this malfunction is triglyceride--- which is a form of fat. That is why you and I should not consume to much fructose, unless it's coming straight from a fruit base source. Coconut sugar only has just 45 percent of fructose, which make it a better alternative for replacing your granulated sugar, or any other sweetener in that case.

Hot Out Of The Oven...... Himalayan Salt

In this last February edition I will be spilling out the facts of Himalayan Salt, and it's health benefits over the standardize salt you are use to.

I have been asked twice by two different followers, theses two questions. 1. What is Himalayan Salt? and 2. Do I have to use Himalayan salt in a recipe? and to answer both questions all at once, I would highly recommend using Himalayan salt after reading this article.

Salt is one true essential substance in our life- we can not survive without it. People however, do not realize the major difference between standard, refine and cooking salt most of us are customary to sticking with chemical salt.

When it comes to choosing to eat healthy, choosing the right type of salt makes a differences. Especially if you want your body to function properly, you need to say "Adios" to the usual salt and bring in the much healthier holistic salt. Himalayan Salt is complete with all- natural elements.

Therefore, Himalayan salt contains the same 84 natural minerals and elements found within the human body. Whereas this form of salt has matured over the past 250 million years ago, under intense pressure.

Now What intense pressure has Himalayan Salt been under? that your table salt has not been under. Your probably asking yourself. Generously if you have read this far , you would know that Himalayan salt is roughly "250 million years old" meaning that it was deposited longer before the earth became filtered with pollution.

Right now I hope your thinking more self consciously about, the salt on your table and what benefits it holds for your body. After reading more into what Himalayan salt has that Iodized salt does not have. I will break down the benefits of this all-natural element has.

But, first I want to tell you that Himalayan salt is known as "Pink gold" this salt is actually translucent pink and contains 84 elements found in the human body. Like I have mention in the beginning of this article. Plus you do not need to use more of this substance. Like, you would use your normal table salt.

1. Regulating the water content throughout your body

2. Promoting healthy pH balance in your cells, particularly your brain cells

3. Promoting blood sugar health and helping to reduce the signs of aging

4. Assisting in the generation of hydroelectric energy in cells in your body

5. Absorption of food particles through your intestinal tract

6. Supporting respiratory health

7. Promoting sinus health

8. Prevention of muscle cramps

9. Promoting bone strength

10. Regulating your sleep – it naturally promotes sleep

11. Supporting your libido

12. Promoting vascular health

13. in coexistence with the amount of water you take in, it is actually important for regulating your blood pressure.

Hot out of the oven... Energy Drinks

In this third February edition I will be spilling out the facts of Energy Drinks, and is it really good for your health.

Everyone needs a little boost of energy every now and then. But, did you know that energy drinks are dangerous to your health? Yes! energy drinks are one of the fastest growing beverage here in america. They promise to make you more aware, active and rejuvenated. Yes, energy drinks hold up to their primary goal- which they reduces sleepiness and make you more alert. While at the same time energy drinks are weighting you're health down, with a very costly price tag. Energy drinks can cause significant and insignificant side effects. Just like, everything else we consume in our daily lives. But the fact of the matter here is, are really safe energy drinks truly safe for you in the long run?

That's is why, I am here to break it down to you, and help you better understand the truth behind the label. You're probably wondering how will I break it down to you? Why it's quite simple here.

Let's begin talking about formulations

Energy drinks come in all different sizes. Need we going into? Why Of course yes. Bottles, shots, powder, all sorts of sizes you name it. When it comes to quenching your thirst truly matters to you. But, I hope that when you are choosing a beverage, you are being self conscious of what you are drinking.

Bottles/ Cans

These drinks are premixed and ready for you to grab up, and drink. Just be aware of the serving sizes because many bottles can equal up to two serving size or more; especially if your planing on gulping down the whole bottle, and now your getting more than a double amount of the ingredients on the label.

Shots

These energy drinks come in pocket sized. people typically purchase these when they want a quick dose of energy, and they chug it down all in one go. When you chug down theses drinks, they will hit you hard and fast and will only last up to 5-6 hours.

Powered

Like the bottled or canned varieties, they can be sipped more slowly.

Ingredients

Like most energy drinks contain a combinations of caffeine, B vitamin, sugar and other herbs.

Caffeine

This is the main key ingredient that puts the word "ENERGY" in energy drinks. That's where I draw my concerns here because of people with multiple medical conditions. Plus the amount of caffeine that is inside the beverage it's self. Energy drinks can at lease hold up to 80 to 500 mg per serving. The safest amount of caffeine daily is 200 mg.

Many of these energy drinks hold not only high caffeine levels, but they also combine them with other herbs that contain caffeine, such as guarana and yerba mate. Plus, keep this in mind that these drinks can hold up multiple servings in one bottle a lone.

In higher portions, caffeine can have many disadvantage. Especially in excess amounts, caffeine can cause the following. Insomnia, Jitteriness, Palpitations, Rapid heart rate and elevated your blood pressure. Caffeine also can cause dehydration because it has a diuretic effect.

There are some people who can build up a tolerance to caffeine as well. while over time, some people may find themselves needing an extra boost to help them throughout the day can achieve the same effect.

B Vitamins

In this group of 8 vitamins plays a variety of roles in cell metabolism. Some of these drinks have massive amounts of B vitamins. But, here’s the thing: B vitamins will not boost your energy unless you are deficient in them. Most of us get all the B vitamins we could possibly need in our diets. While the majority of B vitamins are not toxic when consumed in excess because they are water soluble and any excess is just excreted in the urine. That is except for two of them:

Having too much of vitamin B 3 (niacin) which can cause a flushing of the skin, stomach upset, blurred vision or liver inflammation. Some shots have 150% more than the maximum recommended dose of 35 mg daily.

Having too much of B6 (a dose greater than 500 mg /day) which can cause nerve damage, tingling and numbness in arms and legs.

Guaraná and Ginseng

Guarana is a natural energy booster, which is a natural caffeine that comes from a red small rounded fruit. Guarana containing up to 8% caffeine, which is about 2.5 times the amount found in coffee. This red rounded fruit also contain theophylline and theobromine, which counters the over-stimulating effect of caffeine and makes it ideal for long-term use to boost energy.

Ginseng is extracted from the root of the ginseng plant, ginseng has been found in studies to boost brain power – but you would need at least 200 mg to reap this benefit, which most drinks don’t contain. "Cautions" this plant has shown to interact as with blood thinning drugs.

Now comes the real true factor in energy beverages, and that of course is the "Sugar".

If you are a fan of any energy drink out there, you must have paid a very close attention to the nutritional facts. And if not then did you know that just about one can along has about 14 teaspoons of sugar! Yes, you heard me correctly which is more then the recommend doses. Sugar is what spike up our blood glucose levels. Sugar can also cause some people to gain weight, especially if they consume to much. Therefore weight gain comes from consuming too much sugar in some people.

I've covered the basic scenario on energy drinks. But, there is one other factor that I want to make you aware of, and that is of course the Side effects of these drinks.

Palpitations / tachycardia
Tremor / shaking
Agitation / restlessness
Gastrointestinal upset
Chest pain / ischaemia
Dizziness / syncope
Paraesthesia (tingling or numbing of the skin)
Insomnia
Respiratory distress
Headache
Allergic reaction

* SPECIAL NOTE:
As I am not a professional/certified doctor, or nutritionist. But, I do want to say as a patient of many medical issues myself. That I would use safety precaution when thinking about grabbing up a energy drink. Why I myself would blend together some fruit's and vegetables and call it my energy booster.

Money Saving Tip Tuesday

*Note: this Money saving tip is based from Yesterday's Hot out of the oven News. High fructose corn syrup

Welcome to another edition of Money Saving tips.
In this edition I will be sharing some cool tips that won't break your bank, and will keep you smiling from ear to ear all the time.
Once again thank you for sticking around for, this second edition of money saving tips for this February edition. I will be bring you different money saving tip's daily on saving cash in your wallet, every Tuesday. This week on money saving tip's Living Better Cafe wants to, help you save more cash in your wallet than ever before. This week I will be giving you tip's on natural alternatives to high fructose corn syrup.

I hope that after reading about High fructose corn syrup that you have really allowed the information to really marinate deeply into your brains because there are other alternatives you can use on a daily bases. I Katrina Smith you're creator of Living Better Cafe is just looking out for you, and you're health. Now if you have read Yesterday's Hot out of the oven news then you are set to see what alternatives you can use in replace of (HFCS).

Sucanat Pronounced (Shu-Ka-Nat)

Now what is sucanat ?

Sucanat is dried, unrefined cane juice that comes from sugar. Sucanat typically is made up of sugar that has been separated from molasses. While Sucanat keeps the molasses and sugar together leaving the vitamins and minerals of the sugar cane plant intact. This minimally processed sweetener product is one of the closest to the natural state of the sugar cane plant on the market today.

Honey

We all know how Honey is made. But, I will re share this information with you again any way. Honey is made from bees of course, as bees collect nectar from flowering plants, the flavor of honey changes depending on the types of plants in an area. It is sweeter and has more calories than sugar and can raise blood sugar more than white sugar. ( not recommended if you are allergic to bee's).

Molasses

Black strap is the most common in stores, as you may see in you're supermarket, or grocery store. It contains many of the vitamins and minerals found in the raw sugar cane. A lighter, sweeter alternative is barbados molasses.

Turbinado

This sweetener comes from the first pressing of sugar cane and retains a small amount of the molasses flavor. It contains fewer calories than your regular white sugar and can replace brown sugar in baking recipes. Due to its moisture levels it should be stored in an airtight container.

Stevia

Stevia comes from an herbal leaf plant and is not a sugar so does not raise your insulin levels, the reason many diabetics use it. It can be 70-400 times sweeter than regular sugar, so a little goes a long way. Those who suffering from hypoglycemia, and any kind of seizures should consult a doctor or nutritionist as stevia can actually lower blood sugar (if you are hypoglycemia) and if you have a history of seizures (this alternative can cause seizure actives).

Maple Syrup

When thinking of Maple syrup, why not think Pure Maple syrup because pure is much healthier for you. (if you have any allergy to Maple tree's not recommended)

Agave Nectar

Agave nectar is a sweeter commercially produced from several species of agave, that includes Blue agave. there are multiple controversy over this natural product. As some claim it is actually worse than HFCS, others disagree. It contains the same number of calories as sugar but is sweeter, so less is often needed.

Hot out of the oven....High Fructose Corn Syrup

Adapted from: http://corn.org/products/sweeteners/high-fructose-corn-syrup/

In this second February edition I will be spilling out the facts of High Fructose Corn syrup, and is it really good for your health.

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), is a sweeter made from corn, which comes in two primary compositions -HFCS-42 and HFCS-55. This means it is composed of either 42 percent or 55 percent fructose, with the remaining sugars being primarily glucose and higher sugars (chains of glucose).

In terms of composition, high fructose corn syrup is nearly identical to table sugar (sucrose), which is composed of 50 percent fructose and 50 percent glucose. Glucose is one of the simplest forms of sugar that serves as a building block for most carbohydrates. Fructose is a simple sugar commonly found in fruits and honey.

There has been a lot of headlines circling around about High fructose corn syrup. Which really makes you wonder is there any signs of the truth out there. Why you do not need to wonder any longer, I have gone through almost ever site possible to bring you what I believe is telling you the truth.

So, here I will be breaking down the Fact's and Myth's of (HFCS), that way you do not have to any longer.

We all know that when you try to mix oil with water what happens. So, lets start with the facts which in this case I will call it oil because facts always stay above land.

The fact of the matter is, the reason why a lot food companies have started utilizing High Fructose corn syrup is because its much cheaper then regular sugar. Now, I know this make you want to go inside your own kitchen and put your table sugar to the test. But, the only difference here is that, how they've made (HFCS) is extracted and combined.

Why of course, I am not saying high fructose corn syrup is good for you in any way. As there are loads of multiple food products loaded with (HFCS), which is causing a lot of health issues in the long run. But, what are these health problems? heart disease, obesity, cancer, dementia, liver failure, tooth decay and more.

So, I am leaving you with a food for thought on this one.

As you have heard over a gillion times, always eat in moderation.

Do you think High Fructose Corn Syrup should be opt out completely for a much better option? Leave your stand point on what you think. I would love to hear your view on this topic and who knows you're view could be a topic for "Coffee Talk" up and coming episodes on "Hot Out Of The Oven" . Until next time "Happy Journey's to Living Better"

Hot out of the oven...Whey

Adapted from:  http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/263371.php

In this first February edition I will be bringing you the benefits of Whey protein.

First we all should know that Whey is found inside of milk, and milk is made of two types of proteins. These two types of proteins consist of casein and whey. Whey protein is what separates from the casein in milk, or formed as a by-product of cheese making.

Whey protein is considered a complete protein and contains of all nine essential amino acids that our body needs, and is low in lactose content. People who are mostly into bodybuilding commonly use it as supplementation, alongside resistance exercise, to help improve muscle protein synthesis and promote the growth of lean tissue mass.

The whey health benefits:

There are multiple benefits associated with the consumption of whey protein, as researchers are constantly finding new possible therapeutic properties to use whey protein.

I will have a list the possible health benefits of consuming whey protein. Note that many of these potential benefits are generally based upon one study.

Aiding weight loss

According to one study, published in Nutrition & Metabolism, people who took a specialized whey fraction (Prolibra™, high in leucine, bioactive peptides and milk calcium) "lost significantly more body fat and showed a greater preservation of lean muscle compared to subjects consuming the control beverage."

Anti-cancer properties

Promising results were published in the journal Anticancer Research for the use of whey protein concentrate (WPC) and glutathione modulation in cancer treatment.5

Lowering cholesterol

According to a study published in The British Journal of Nutrition, "there was a significant decrease in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol at week 12 in the whey group compared with the casein (group)."

Asthma

Whey protein could improve immune response in children with asthma. One study, published in the International Journal of Food Science and Nutrition, found that children with asthma who were supplemented with whey for one month had an improved cytokine response.7

Lowering blood pressure and reducing risk of cardiovascular disease

Research published in the International Dairy Journal found that beverages that were supplemented with whey protein significantly reduced blood pressure in patients with hypertension, their risk of developing heart disease or stroke was also lower.

A study published in the journal Clinical and Investigative Medicine1 found that whey protein may help reduce weight loss among HIV-positive patients.

Now I will take you into possible side effects of whey protein.

There are some people who are allergic to milk may be specifically allergic to whey.

If taken in moderate doses whey protein doesn't generally cause any adverse effects.

But however, consuming severely high doses can cause:

Stomach pains
Cramps
Reduced appetite
Nausea
Headache
Fatigue.

The risk of Whey Protein:

Generally, most of the complications associated with whey protein intake have to do with digestive issues, such as gas, bloating, headaches, cramps and fatigue. None of these are generally considered life-threatening, these are more so annoying complications that different people may have.

So if you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, they are most likely due to either the lactose (found more in Whey Protein Concentrate) or sweeteners used more so than the whey protein itself. With that being said, there are different methods of whey production, such as ion-exchanged that can influence how well your body can utilize the protein, leading to improper digestion of the whey itself.

People who consume too much of whey protein within their diet, can lead to Kidney stones and Kidney failure. Now you're going to wonder how can that basically happen? When you eat to much of this protein, it create calcium deposits around your kidneys, and one of the ways of getting them out is through urination. Yes! I have heard ( and not trying to scare you, or anything) But, its painful.
